Physiotherapy for Children

Paediatric physiotherapy can improve motor skills, enhance school readiness, and increase independence for children with disabilities, movement concerns and development delays.

  • Formalised and standardised Developmental Coordination Disorder Assessment (Movement ABC): 

Specialised assessments for diagnosing developmental coordination disorder (formerly known as Dyspraxia), facilitating targeted therapy plans that are widely accepted by NDIS. 

 

  • NDIS Assessment and Review Report:  

Professional and thorough reports that meet NDIS requirements, ensuring continued funding and support.

While our primary focus is to support children, our mission has always been to support families.  

 

At Hygiea, a point of difference is our compassionate, holistic, professional and family centred approach. We understand that family members of children receiving our services, sustain injuries, are on NDIS too, can experience mobility issues and physical challenges needing attention as well.  And finding time to focus on your needs often takes a back seat to your children.

Implementing the physiotherapy guided exercises and activities to promote physical strength and health, supporting therapeutic goals. 

  • Work towards NDIS goals 

Assistance in achieving personal goals outlined in NDIS plans, ensuring meaningful progress and development.

What to expect in your child’s first Physiotherapy session? 

The first physiotherapy assessment session with me includes several key steps to ensure a comprehensive understanding of your child's needs and goals: 

 

  1. Medical History Review: We'll start by going through your child's past medical history to understand their background and any previous treatments or diagnoses. 

  2. Rapport Building: Establishing a comfortable and trusting relationship with both parents and the child is essential. This helps create a supportive environment for effective therapy.

  3. Expectations Discussion: We'll discuss your expectations and concerns to align our goals and approach. 

  4. Observation and Assessment: I'll observe your child's motor and neurological levels, appropriate for their age group, and score these observations using a standardised assessment sheet. 

  5. Goal Setting: Together with the child's parents, we'll establish meaningful and achievable goals, setting a clear timeline for progress. By providing ongoing resources and tailored homework after each session, we ensure continuous growth and empower parents to support their child's development at home. 

  6. Assessment Report: After the session, (if required), you'll can request receive for a detailed NDIS assessment report that includes the standardised assessment scores, the goals we've set, and information regarding NDIS funding. 

 

This thorough initial session ensures that we have a clear roadmap for your child's physiotherapy journey, tailored to their unique needs and supported by evidence-based practices.
